History of Milan

Milan owes its name and its vocation to the Celtic “Midland”, that means “earth of the middle”. From time immemorial crossroads of commerce and people, contestation of Barbarians and Roman, emperors and archbishops, foreign armies and noble premises, it is known to have created a flourishing industry since the Middle Ages thanks to the most active bourgeoisie able to place the city in the vanguard of civil, economic and cultural field.
